Hello again 2023 buddies!
Who else is still writing 2022 in dates? I keep changing the last ‘2’ to a ‘3’. Lol. Did you read my last post? If you haven't, you can read it here. In my last post, I made a few comments about the end of the year and said my thank-you’s. I'm saying my thank you again to you. You all are amazing and I wish you a soft year.
I've been learning about something lately and would love to share it with you. It's on superiority and inferiority. It remains a fact that nobody is superior to you and facts remain fundamental truths. You've heard it many times, you've read it in books and it might not sound deep to you anymore. But, I'm reminding you again that nobody is superior to you. No one should make you feel inferior and no one can without your consent (that’s actually a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt).
Many times, we think of others, especially people we admire as gods. We get all star-glazed and raise them on pedestals we built someplace very high. We then stoop low and worship their works, admire their words and drink in their very essence. While this in itself is not ultimately a bad idea, it becomes so if and when you do not recognize your own worth. If you don't praise and admire your works the same way you do theirs. It becomes a negative thing, if you don't appreciate your growth process because most times, we invariably look down on ourselves when we look up to others obsessively.
Flipping things a bit, you also should bear in mind that you're not superior to anyone else. It's a two-way thing you know, no one is better than you, you're not better than anyone else... Everybody, is an human beinggg and should be treated as one. Just because you have those talents, IQ, fine face and apartment on Banana Island does not make you King-Kong. (I shake your table?)
Calm down and respect others. I've also been learning humility these days. Not to look down on people and to treat everyone with equal respect. Don't get me wrong, no one is saying you shouldn't be confident. Yet, there's a fine line between confidence and arrogance, and it's called humility. Remember the song this little boy sang about beautiful days, rain and sunshine? I love the intro that says this:
"Don't want to act too high and mighty cos tomorrow I may fall down on my face...”
May we not fall down on our faces because that’s what the Bible also says come after pride.
Lakotan, the presence of worth in you is not the absence of worth in others. The presence of worth in others is not the absence of yours either. Point, blank, period.
Don't get lost admiring others that you do not see how purely golden you are (pure, untainted gold). All that you were, all that you are, all that you're becoming, the process, efforts and all. Everything is beautiful. Everything counts.
Posts that you can expect in the coming weeks include:
• A post on loving yourself into change.
• A post about inspiration vs comparison.
You can also make suggestions on what you want me to write on. I'd really love to hear from you.
Till my next,
Keep Unboxing (the miracle that is you).
Nice write up Temiloluwa. Truly, no human is superior to any other. People are superior only when you've accepted that they are superior. It's truly by choice. Thanks for this message. ❤
"the presence of worth in you is not the absence of worth in others. The presence of worth in others is not the absence of yours either." The most valuable lesson I have learnt today. Thanks Tee gurl
